SPORTING CLAYS HISTORY
Sporting Clays was developed in England as a method of preparing for the hunt. Targets representing various game were utilized to hone the hunter's skills. In the 1980's, sporting clays came to the United States. Compared by some to be "golf with a shotgun", sporting clays has quickly become one of the top participation sports in the country, with the largest segment being women participants. Action packed and exciting, sporting clays is a sure bet for an enjoyable outing.


Sporting Clays is one of the popular and growing shotgun sports in the U.S. and Europe. Siuslaw Sporting Clays is run by Jerry and Diane Harpole. The course is in an all natural setting in the dunes surrounded by coastal pine trees. On any given Sunday the course can change, so from week to week a shooter that shoots well on one particular Sunday may face more challenging shots the following week. One never knows what Jerry is up to. Lunch is served for an additional charge. Hamburgers, Spaghetti, Pulled Pork, Salads are just a few of the meals prepared by Diane. Normally the cost is $5.00.

Sporting Clay shooters enjoy the natural setting.
The club has two trap ranges. The upper trap is operational while the lower trap is being moved and repaired. Walt Brenner is your trap night host. Shooting starts at 6:00pm and ends at 9:30pm. All levels of trap shooters are encouraged to come out. This is an open event and is open to the public on Wednesday night. We shoot practice rounds and games. The games include Annie's, 3-3-3, Quail Walk, Backers and more. So for a good 'ole time come out and enjoy the fun.
